Newcastle United have reportedly contacted Roma to ask after the availability of Nicolò Zaniolo, joining Milan and Juventus in the chase for the Italy international.

His contract with the Giallorossi only runs to June 2024 and negotiations over a new deal have dragged on for months.

According to Radio Radio in Rome, Premier League side Newcastle United have been in talks with the Serie A side over Zaniolo’s availability.

Director Tiago Pinto and coach Jose Mourinho will discuss whether or not to sacrifice Zaniolo to raise funds for new signings elsewhere in the squad.

The 23-year-old has struggled to find his best role, playing in midfield, as a support striker or on the right wing.

He was purchased from Inter for €4.5m in 2018, before he’d even made his Serie A debut, but the Nerazzurri are owed 15 per cent of any future transfer fee.

Zaniolo has 11 senior caps for Italy, scoring two goals, though his career has been stalled by two serious anterior cruciate ligament injuries.
