According to multiple reports, Newcastle will hold talks with former Roma coach Paulo Fonseca, while there are no negotiations with Antonio Conte.

The former midfielder doesn’t want to get a new job while the season is ongoing. Therefore, he is not an option for Newcastle as things stand.

With the Magpies announcing Steve Bruce’s exit by mutual consent this morning, Conte has been linked with a move to St. James’ Park, but according to Fabrizio Romano, the Italian coach has not been contacted by the Premier League side.

However, a familiar face for Serie A, namely Paulo Fonseca, could take over at the club.

According to Sky Sports UK’s Keith Downie, Newcastle will hold talks with the Portuguese tactician this week, although Fonseca is not the only candidate for the role.

Conte’s requests to Newcastle and why he may not get the job now

The former Roma boss negotiated with Tottenham in the summer, but Spurs eventually decided against appointing him.

Fonseca is reportedly open to taking the job at St. James’ Park, meantime Graeme Jones will lead the team on an interim basis, starting with the upcoming away clash at Crystal Palace.

  1. interesting how whenever these jobs come up English managers are never in the frame. Never. Are there even any English managers in the PL? There must be a couple at the lower clubs.
