Corriere dello Sport report that Newcastle United have threatened Milan with a multimillion-euro lawsuit over Sandro Tonali’s imminent betting ban.

The paper highlights how the 23-year-old Italian midfielder is expected to be handed his suspension by the Italian FA today for his involvement in the Serie A betting scandal. He has admitted to placing bets on both Brescia and Milan during his times at both clubs.

Tonali’s legal team are negotiating a deal that’ll likely see him handed a 10-12 month ban and the expectation is that this’ll be confirmed in the coming hours, with all parties keen to finalise proceedings.

On Tuesday, Newcastle reportedly threatened to launch a multimillion-euro lawsuit against Milan when Tonali’s ban comes into effect, furious that their €70m summer signing will now be sidelined for the rest of the season.

The midfielder’s salary – around €8m net per season – will be suspended. This comes in stark contrast to Juventus’ handling of Nicolo Fagioli’s ban, who have decided to pay his full salary and allow him to train with the first team.
