Newcastle United are looking to bolster their backline this summer and have started targeting Juventus centre back Federico Gatti, reports detail.

The Magpies struggled to maintain balance between the Premier League and the Champions League last term, finishing a tough seventh in the league table, missing out on the European competition under Eddie Howe.

In recent weeks, reports emerged detailing Newcastle’s interest in Milan defender Fikayo Tomori, who has been a central part of the Rossoneri squad over the last few years. Now, they’ve set their sights on Serie A once again.

Newcastle look to Gatti

Page 29 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Newcastle are keeping a close eye on Juventus defender Gatti ahead of the summer transfer window, considering making a move for the Italy international. An offer of around €25-30m would be enough to take things forward.

The Old Lady have already identified a number of possible defensive reinforcements ahead of the summer, including Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori, Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior and OGC Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo.
