Milan’s talks for Lille defender Sven Botman are in the final stages and he’s only a step away from joining the Rossoneri now.

The 22-year-old Dutch defender was one of the Milanese club’s top targets in the January transfer window but they couldn’t agree a deal with the French club halfway through the season. Newcastle United are also keen to pick up the Dutchman, believing him to be the perfect addition to their future-facing squad.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Milan’s offer for Botman is about to be accepted by both club and player; the Rossoneri have offered a €33m total deal to Lille for the 22-year-old, who will earn €2.5m net per season.

Paolo Maldini contacted Botman’s entourage earlier this week to reiterate Milan’s desire to close out the deal soon. Updates are expected as the season starts to draw to a close.

The 22-year-old Botman has made 28 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2488 minutes. In that time, he’s scored three goals, provided one assist and helped the side keep nine clean sheets.

  1. I can see the deal be announced at the end of the season as Maldini wouldn’t want to distract his defenders about their future in the middle of scudetto hunt
