Reports from England claim that Newcastle United are only a step away from signing Milan defender Malick Thiaw after talks progressed in recent days.

The 22-year-old German centre back has been targeted by the Magpies for a number of weeks now and the Rossoneri are open to a sale, which would free up space for key target Strahinja Pavlovic, who is on the verge of completing a move to the Lombardy capital.

Thiaw has been with Milan since August 2022, when he arrived from Schalke 04 in a deal worth circa €8.8m. After a slow start, he became a regular feature of the defence alongside Fikayo Tomori, forming a strong partnership. His contract with the club lasts to June 2027.

Newcastle on cusp of Thiaw signing

HITC details how Newcastle are close to finalising a move for Thiaw after talks with Milan progressed over the last 72 hours and a deal could now be completed for around €40m including add-ons. The defender has already agreed a deal in principle with the Premier League club.

His departure would free up space in the squad for Pavlovic, allowing the Rossoneri to complete a deal with RB Salzburg.

  1. It’s crazy lol, he had one good half season, and has been a bit flaky since. He’s not rubbish, he has potential for sure, but he’s definitely not worth 40 mil, so if we can get anywhere near that I’d take it in a heartbeat.
