Salernitana announce that one more player tested positive for COVID, but two have recovered, meaning Sunday’s match against Napoli could go ahead.

Lega Serie A approved a new protocol earlier this week, stating that games can be postponed when a team has nine players positive for COVID.

That’s exactly how many Salernitana had until today’s new round of swab tests. However, the number of cases has decreased to eight as the Granata announced that one of their players tested positive, but two are now negative.

One of them is likely to be Franck Ribery, who announced he had been dealing with COVID over the last few weeks.

Salernitana president admits Napoli game may not be played

“In the last days and weeks I was unfortunately stopped by COVID, which was very difficult, but thanks to God Al hamdoulillah I’m getting better and better,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Since this week I have been training on my own again and hope to be back on the pitch soon insha’Allah.”

Salernitana President Danilo Iervolino had admitted today that Sunday’s derby might not go ahead.

However, the latest developments change the scenario. On paper, Salernitana can’t require a postponement of the match with just eight cases in their team. Players will undergo a new round of swab tests tomorrow.
