Investcorp’s negotiations with Elliott are still ongoing but one thing is clear: a new stadium in Milan is fundamental.
As detailed by Calciomercato.com, a new stadium has undoubtedly contributed to the €1.1 billion figure being discussed between the two parties and it’s particularly interesting to the Bahraini fund, especially considering the long-term economic development it can bring.
What’s clear is that the current Stadio Giuseppe Meazza will continue to be Inter and Milan’s home for next season, but it’s impossible to say whether or not the San Siro area will continue to host the two teams in the future as talks are currently ongoing regarding feasibility.
This feasibility study will take place between July and August and the deadline for the talks has been set for November 30, when the final decision will be made.
The chosen project is the ‘Cathedral’ stadium of Populous, work that would require around €1 billion in investment between the stadium, the commercial area and the surrounding green area. The two clubs would be hoping to take home around €80m each per year as a result of the stadium.
The two Milanese clubs have made it clear that they’re unhappy with the slow work of the City of Milan and so they’re also considering moving the project to the Sesto San Giovanni area. The mayor Roberto Di Stefano has made it clear that construction work could begin within 18 months, putting pressure on the City of Milan.
Giving Milan a new stadium has been a priority for Elliott and now it’s the same for Investcorp as well.
