Paul Pogba made an eventful cameo off the bench for Juventus, seeing a goal disallowed before he pulled up with a new muscular injury. ‘He felt a twinge.’

The midfielder was a substitute in this evening’s 2-0 victory away to Empoli at the Stadio Castellani, coming on at the hour mark.

He thought that he had scored his first Serie A goal since returning to Turin, a splendid volley that hit the back of the net, but Dusan Vlahovic was clearly offside when providing the assist.

Pogba seemed to over-stretch at one point in the final minutes of the match going into a challenge and from then on was moving rather gingerly.

While his teammates went to celebrate with the travelling fans, the Frenchman went straight to the locker room talking intensely to the chief medic and touching the back of his thigh.

“We don’t know anything yet, he felt a twinge at the back, so we’ll see what the tests say,” coach Max Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

Although he had surgery for a knee injury, the main problem stalling Pogba’s career over the last two years has been the tendency to sustain muscular issues.

It is a vicious circle, because the less he manages to train and play regularly, the more likely the muscles are to suffer problems.
