Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Napoli’s latest signing, discussed his reasons for joining the Campania side and what number he’d like to wear.

The 21-year-old Georgian forward agreed to join the Partenopei earlier this year, agreeing to a five-year deal worth around €1.5m net per season. He started the season with Rubin Kazan before joining Dinamo Batumi following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Speaking to Nobel Arustamyan, Kvaratskhelia discussed his decision to sign for Napoli and a conversation he had with coach Spalletti.

“I spoke with Spalletti, he told me he wanted to work with me and I felt the desire to do it with him. After that discussion I decided to move to Napoli. He explained to me how Serie A works and I feel ready for such a big jump.”

The Georgian forward then touched on which shirt number he’d like to wear in Campania.

“I don’t know if I will wear the number 77 or the number 18, I certainly know that the number 10 is not to be touched because it only belongs to Maradona.”

Finally, Kvaratskhelia commented on which Napoli player he’s most excited to play with and some conversations he’s had with fellow Serie A stars.

“I’d like to play with Koulibaly, he’s a great footballer. I have also spoken with Kaladze and Miranchuk, they told me to work hard because otherwise you won’t reach your goals.”

Kvaratskhelia is a creative and electric trequartista, impressing in the final third and possessing a little bit of magic. He’ll be hoping to prove his mettle in Serie A in the upcoming campaign.
