Tiago Djaló says his ‘knee is doing well’ and confirms Timothy Weah called me before his move to Juventus.

Juventus confirmed Djaló’s transfer on a permanent deal from Lille on Monday.

The Portuguese defender’s contract in France expired in June 2024, so the Bianconeri managed to secure his signature in January for €3.5m plus add-ons.

“I’m really happy; Juventus are a huge team, a top side with many talented players. I feel great and it’s a huge day for me,” the versatile 23-year-old defender told Juventus.com after signing his contract.

“I’m ready, I work hard. It’s a matter of opportunities. I feel good, the knee is doing well. As I said, it’s a matter of playing. I feel good, I train well every day, and I am happy to be here.”

Djaló has been out of action since March 2023 due to a cruciate ligament injury but is expected to return to action pretty soon.

A former defender in Milan‘s youth sector, Djaló moved to Lille in 2019 as part of a deal that brought Rafael Leao to the Stadio Meazza. He played with Juventus winger Tim Weah in France before the USMNT international moved to Turin last summer. Djaló confirmed he had spoken to the 23-year-old before joining the Old Lady.

“Yes, he called me and said good things about the team,” confirmed Djaló.

“He said that I could do a lot for the team. He has helped me and been important to me.

“I’ve never played here before, but it’s a quality league; France is a quality league, too. Here it is more tactical, and I think this is really good for me because the style of play in France is different.”

Lastly, the new Bianconeri signing had a message for his new fans: “I’ll give everything for you. I am thrilled to be here. See you soon.”
