There are fears Domenico Berardi tore his Achilles tendon in Sassuolo‘s away Serie A game against Hellas Verona, causing serious concern for the Neroverdi and Italy ahead of Euro 2024.

Berardi had returned to action after nearly two months on Sunday in a key Serie A game in the race for survival against Verona.

However, he was forced off the pitch in the second half, suddenly falling to the ground right before attempting a shot from distance.

Sassuolo doctors were immediately urged on the pitch and Berardi was nearly in tears when forced to be replaced.

The first diagnosis from the Stadio Bentegodi is not good at all for Sassuolo and Italy. According to Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Berardi suffered a suspected rupture of his Achilles tendon.

This means he’d miss the rest of the season for the Neroverdi and could miss the 2024 Euros with Italy.

Berardi, 29, has scored nine goals in 16 appearances with Sassuolo this season. The Nerovedi earned just one point in the last five games without their star winger.
