When these two sides met earlier in the qualifying campaign it was France that dominated proceedings, running out 4-0 winners. Ronald Koeman will be hoping that his players can perform a little better than that in front of their own fans at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam.
The Dutch did win both of their last two games in the group to set themselves up nicely for this one. But it could be that the game against Greece turns out to be the more crucial fixture though, if things don’t go right here.
The Netherlands have only lost that one game in this qualifying phase so will still be confident of qualifying in second. Yet there will be a feeling of being out for revenge here – and Koeman will need to make sure that his players are focused on the game.
France could theoretically still be caught in the race for a Euro 2024 berth. Les Bleus have though won all five of their games so far – scoring 11 and conceding none – and will likely cruise into the finals by winning Group B.
Didier Deschamps will also need to make sure that his players do not take their foot off the gas. But there is so much depth in this squad that even if the starting line-up looks a little unfamiliar, France should still depart with the three points.
Kylian Mbappé could always be one of the players rested. But Deschamps is more likely to give his captain a go from the start – and that means that the PSG striker could also be a good bet to score the first goal in Amsterdam.
