Alessandro Nesta is reportedly only a step away from becoming the next head coach of Monza following Raffaele Palladino’s exit.

The Biancorossi did well under Palladino over the last two years in Serie A, finishing 11th in their first campaign in the topflight and 12th this season, comfortably far away from the relegation zone. The coach decided to step away this month, ready for a new adventure at Fiorentina.

Monza quickly started their coach search following Palladino’s decision and a handful of possible candidates were quickly identified by CEO Adriano Galliani, including Nesta, Andrea Pirlo and Marco Baroni.

Nesta close to Monza

As reported by TMW and Gianluca Di Marzio, Nesta is the leading candidate to take on the Monza job and is close to reaching a total agreement with the club, possibly in the coming hours.

The former Lazio defender spent this season in charge of Reggiana, who he guided to an 11th place finish in Serie B. His contract expires at the end of this month, making him available for the Biancorossi.
