Paris Saint Germain forward Nene has revealed he was on the verge of joining Milan this summer – before Leonardo intervened.

Leonardo, formerly a player, Coach and board member at Milan, now director of football at PSG, was instrumental in the Ligue 1 club's purchase of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva from the Rossoneri for a combined fee of €64m this summer.

It appears he was unwilling to let Brazilian forward Nene go in the opposite direction however.

“It's a sensitive issue,” the player told L'Equipe in an interview published today. “But I had contact with Milan then spoke with Leonardo.

“He said that the deal could not go through because of the price. Carlo Ancelotti and Leo let me know that they consider me a major player.”

The bid deemed insufficient reportedly amounted to €7m.

Nene was the joint top scorer in France last season, hitting 21 goals, the same amount as new Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud.

So far this season he has been restricted to just two starts, as he struggles to assert himself in amongst PSG's band of multi million signings.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the deal to take him to Milan isn't dead yet, and could be resurrected in January.

The 31-year-old was also linked with city rivals Inter this summer.
