Roma legend Sebino Nela admits that he has been left disappointed by summer signing Adriano.

The big Brazilian was acquired by the Giallorossi at the start of the season after rebuilding his career in Brazil, but the former Inter striker has struggled with fitness and form.

"Although it was a gamble in signing him, I believed it was a good decision," the former Italy international commented.

"His decision to return to Italy, to prove himself again, left me hopeful. However, up until now, he has contributed almost nothing to the cause."

Adriano was left out of the Roma squad for yesterday's 4-2 win over Catania after returning late to Italy from a Christmas trip to his homeland.

David Pizarro was also missing as he recovers from a knee injury in Chile as doubts over his Roma future start to circulate.

"I don't understand the Pizarro situation that has developed," Nela added.

"Thank goodness that players like him exist – you don't need to be big, tall and strong to play this game, you need technique.

"It would be a real shame if Pizarro left Roma."

Zenit St Petersburg, Genoa and Juventus have been linked with the South American in recent weeks.
