Juventus director Pavel Nedved insists Moise Kean can provide the goals they lost with Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit and he is in favour of Scudetto play-offs in future to ‘improve the product.’

They visit Genoa at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT), you can follow all the action as it happens on the LIVEBLOG.

Serie A Liveblog: Inter-Empoli and Genoa-Juventus

Kean starts this evening with Dusan Vlahovic and Paulo Dybala, though his characteristics and tactical role have never quite been developed or identified.

When told that Juve cannot expect Kean to score the goals they lost with Ronaldo’s departure for Manchester United, the vice-president disagreed.

“I might not ask Kean for 35 goals like Ronaldo, but he should be able to provide 25, as he has great potential,” Nedved told Sky Sport Italia.

“If we play him near the opposition area, he knows how to score goals. I ask a lot of him and we expect all the forwards to contribute more goals next season, as this is where we’ve been lacking in our finishing.”

Considering Juve have the Coppa Italia Final against Inter coming up on May 11 and are already guaranteed a place in the Champions League for next season, will the squad be totally focused this evening against a desperate Genoa?

“We must always be professional, do our duty and not kid around. After tonight, nobody is denying our minds will be on Wednesday.”

Nedved was also asked about the discussions with players Mattia De Sciglio and Federico Bernardeschi, whose contracts are running down on June 30.

“There could be news soon, we worked on all the contracts that are set to expire.”

The top four are already locked down, so there are suggestions Serie A could introduce Scudetto play-offs to make the league more exciting.

“The time has come, we need to get people to love football again and bring in the 20-year-olds fans, those the age of my children. We want to bring them to the stadium and to do that we have to improve the product on offer.”

  1. 😂 😂 😂. 25 goals my butt, he could not even score an open goal as shown against Genoa. So now Juve want play offs to avoid having to do the hard work and actually win the league based on merit. I think this formula has been done in the CL and look at where it has got them.

  2. Kean scores 25???

He even can get the goal from super easy scene against genoa

juventus should win by 3 goals margin if they still field vlahovic and not kean

    Poor on you, kean

  3. I’ve said it many times elsewhere and then people say Allegri should have faith in youth players like Kean. He couldn’t even get into Everton. We need to ship him off as fast as possible, together with Morata. These players aren’t worthy of the shirt and the midfield is dire. Miretti might be OK but that’s about it. But Lord, why aren’t you happy that Allegri plays so much youth and with a trident attack, no less? The quality is simply not there. Total rebuild needed in the transfer window.

  4. Nedved used to be a great player but not sure if he is anything else than that. Kean does NOT know how to play football, all muscle no brain, he can shoot if he gets lucky with the space. Comparing Kean and Ronaldo??? (no comment)

  5. Fate behave every week you and your brethren just hate on me with nasty vile words and rather then look at the game itself you just deny, deflect and make excuses. Genoa is Genoa so what is left to say.
Next year 4th spot is again the target. There is too much work that cannot be done in one transfer window and PhD Max is just lucky. I have been consistent since his Milan days and for people to even mention him in the same sentence as Pep, Klopp, Tuchel, Conte, Carlo, Lippi, Capello and Sir Alex Ferguson is down right shameful.

  6. Lorf: have you never asked youself: maybe it’s the squad and not Allegris fault? Many good players, but all castet wrong, without grinta and no leaders in the team. This team relyed on Ronaldo, and now it shows.
If Allegri gets his players needed this summer you have every right to go after him next season, but now he’s just working with what he’s got.

  7. Here we go with the Lorf. More excuses from the pantyhose PhD fan girls. It was GENOA. So you are implying that you need a £300M remodel just to beat Genoa. Be objective and look at the spirit, fight and hunger of lesser teams with cheaper squads across Europe. PhD Max thinks this is 2003 where smaller teams will just roll out the red carpet, lay down and take the ritual defeat. They are no longer intimidated and why do you think EPL mid table teams cause many problems for the better teams, barring the top 2. You mention grinta and leadership. That comes from the top and ever notice how Conte and Klopp teams play in the image of their leader. Slow motion Max was hibernating in a cave off the grid for 2 years and that is a reflection of the team you see.

  8. lol @Lord you’re on a roll and I love the dedication you bring in your vitriolic disdain for the Mister.

  9. I think Kean is super talented and has a lot more to offer. But to expect 25 goals from a player who comes the bench will never happen. I think Kean should be given a fair chance and be given more starts. He scores in half the matches he starts. I’d rather start him than Moratta. If we let Kean go to PSG and he scores 20+ goals then our problems don’t come from our players but management. Look at Kulusevski.

  10. If we could expect 25 goals from Kean, there might be 13 goals he may give, considering 1 goal out of 3 with 38 matches. Then it would be just enough not to bring in Vlahovic. If it was Vlahovic not scoring in 3 games x 90minutes, no one seems to complain about him. When things come off to Kean, with him being subs on and on what people tell?
