Pavel Nedved explains why Juventus decided not to offer Paulo Dybala a new contract and defends Dusan Vlahovic’s form ahead of the Coppa Italia Final against Inter.

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

The winner will be decided after 90 minutes, or if needed extra time and even penalties.

“The coach decides by watching the training sessions who is in the best shape,” vice-president Nedved told Sport Mediaset.

Max Allegri said in yesterday’s press conference that the Coppa Italia wouldn’t be the cherry on the cake of Juve’s season, but rather the whole cake.

“I agree, because let’s say we have achieved Champions League qualification pretty easily and are very happy. This is the second target, reaching the Final, and clearly we want to get back to winning more in the near future.”

Vlahovic has looked irritable lately and struggled to keep up the same scoring form he had at Fiorentina before the transfer to Turin in January.

“Don’t forget the lad started very, very strong, he scored important goals, everyone was enthusiastic. I don’t think it’s just the weight of the shirt, but also fatigue, as he worked very hard in the first half of the season with Fiorentina and naturally is physically tired.

“He is doing well and we are very happy with him.”

Dybala is starting this evening against what could well be his future club, as he is leaving Juventus when his contract expires on June 30 and has been heavily linked with Inter.

Nedved was asked what happened to cause the breakdown of negotiations for a new deal with La Joya?

“We evaluated the player in all areas, what he gives us on and off the field, looking at the contribution 360 degrees. Obviously, his requests were very high, as is fair because he’s a great player, we didn’t feel prepared to do that, so it’s only right that we go our separate ways. That does not mean he’s not a great player.”

Giorgio Chiellini is also expected to leave at the end of this season and could either try a new experience in MLS or potentially retire to start a new career as a Bianconeri director.

“He is an icon, not just of Juventus, but of Italian football. The choice is his, we are open to everything and wish him all the best.”

7 thought on “Nedved explains why Juventus didn’t keep Dybala”
  1. Shambolic leadership at Juventus. The sooner Agnelli leaves, the sooner he can take Nedved and Allegri with him. Their project has failed and the club is in dire need of new leadership and fresh ideas.

  2. To bring back allegri was a bad idea they should have gone for Zidane allegri is already proving to be a bad choice

  3. Why u felt it disrespectful to offer dybala half of what he requested yet still it’s possible he can be playing at inter next season for the same half. That’s makes no sense. dybala is the best player juventus have and he’s the most creative player. Nothing happens offensively when he’s off the pitch. Who is gonna create chances for Dusan when he gone? Arthur?……….poor poor poor leadership…… I’ve supported this club for year’s upon year’s and it pains me now
