Nedved calms Juventus calls for a new striker

Juventus director Pavel Nedved won’t completely rule out a hitman in January, but insists everyone can contribute goals to fill the gap left by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Considering the Bianconeri won their Champions League group thanks to Zenit holding Chelsea in stoppages, will that further boost enthusiasm in Serie A?

“It could do, but there’s no guarantee,” Nedved told DAZN.

“We want to give consistency to our performances and results, but know how many difficulties we will face this evening.”

Goals have been a problem for Juventus this season, as Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata have never really been the most prolific strikers.

Should the club have brought in someone else after Cristiano Ronaldo was sold to Manchester United?

“I agree, we are behind schedule in terms of goals, but there are also attacking players like Federico Chiesa and Federico Bernardeschi who can get 10-15 goals per year.

“It’s true, we lost a player who scores 30 goals per season, but if more of them have 10-15, then we’ll have a better chance of climbing the table.”

Nedved was asked if Juventus will sign a hitman in the January transfer window, especially after reports Mauro Icardi could arrive on loan from PSG.

“The January transfer window is not an easy one to operate in, I think we must focus on getting the best out of the current players and give them confidence. We must continue to push them to do more.

“I won’t say it’s impossible we’ll see someone come to the club in January, but we have many young players who just need that little bit more to really make a difference.”
