Nedved backs ‘fighter’ Mandzukic

Pavel Nedved has leapt to the defence of Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic after derby controversy. “He’s one of the players that best represent Juve.”

Mandzukic was forced to deny reports that he refused to celebrate Juve’s 3-1 win against Torino in Sunday’s Derby della Mole after his substitution, but Nedved suggested both the player and club had moved on from the incident.

“We’ve reached the point where we can improve,” the Vice-President told Premium Sport.

“So far, we’ve been competitive in Italy at large and achieved impressive results.

“In January, important players will leave for the Africa Cup of Nations so maybe we’ll have to take action, but this question should be put to Marotta. Still, this Juve are already very strong.

“Mandzukic? I sent him a message, I must say that he was calm. He’s one of the players that best represent Juve. He’s always fighting, we’re happy to have him in white and black.”
