Juventus vice-president Pavel Nedved insists Max Allegri ‘needs time’ to understand his players, but they do need more goals against Hellas Verona to get over the ‘shock’ Sassuolo loss.

It kicks off at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT), you can follow the build-up and action as it happens from today’s three Serie A games on the LIVEBLOG.

“We did think that we’d have a few more points at this stage of the season, especially considering the performances we have been putting in,” Nedved told DAZN.

The latest setback was a surprise 2-1 home loss to Sassuolo, decided deep into stoppages by Maxime Lopez on the counter-attack while Juve were pouring forward to seek the winner.

“The defeat to Sassuolo was a knock we were not expecting. I saw the faces of the players after that game, they were really shocked.

“It can happen that we don’t start the season well, as we’ve had some bad luck and of course time, as we are on our third coach in as many years.

“Allegri needs time. It’s true he has the advantage of knowing Juventus and what to expect here, but he also has to get to know the players who weren’t here the last time he was in charge. He’s still getting to understand their characteristics.

“We were on the right track until that defeat to Sassuolo, and one game cannot change what we saw in the seven previous performances.”

Another of the issues for Juve this season is the lack of goals, which some have put down to Allegri’s rather defensive approach that tries to win 1-0.

“I agree we haven’t scored many goals, I think 13 in 10 rounds, but there were reasons for that,” added Nedved.

“Paulo Dybala was out for a long time, then Alvaro Morata, now Moise Kean. We moved Federico Chiesa into a more advanced role and he got hurt too.

“We’re working on it and I do expect more goals.”

  1. Worst juve squad ever in history. This is an embarrassment. , I have no idea why we buy players we previously had, want players we never got nor need, why there is no plan , no vision, no nothing . We have directors worthy of McDonald’s jobs and players who should be scrapped from the is squad . It’s an embarrassment and allegri if he wants to keep his job should make it clear he’s working with garbage brought in , the last 3 years

  2. Time to SERIOUSLY clean house.

Start from the top… Allegri has NO FREAKING IDEA about modern football, he’s living in the past where he thinks the squad from 5+ years ago are still there.

Forget this season… Use it to get rid of players.

GK, DFs, MFs, and even subs. All have to be prioritised or let go. Take the losses, but keeping these clowns on inflated salaries (Sczeseny makes 7.5m and he can’t make even basic saves, LOL) is not the way forward.

Even next season can be one of transition, doesn’t matter. Get a better coach, one who plays attacking brand of possession football.

  3. I kept saying this to people like EL CID. The issues are from root to branch. Even Locatelli is overrated. He was never being chased by Inter or any of Europe’s heavyweights. Milan got rid of him as they knew he was out of his depth despite being young. Sassuolo was perfect for him like Berardi as they can play and express themselves without pressure. He is amazing with Italy as he has Barella and Jorginho next to him. Like Bonucci needs his daddy, Locatelli needs his counsellor Barella.

They have Cherubini who is Paratici’s father, an failed F1 director, a clueless president who should form the 3rd division of so called super league teams, a dunce of a coach and horrendous players. Dissolve the club and just have Torino

  4. Frankly speaking first of all I am huge Juve Supporter and have been following them since I was a teenager , Never ever experienced this kind of worst Squad since than , The worst Midfielders , Can Agnelli get rid of Bentacur , McKennie , Ramsey ..Locatelli is good player no doubt but he needs Creative players beside him , The likes of James Rodrigaz and Jesse Lingard, Not Bentaccur and McKennie it is total joke ..

  5. Sorry Demba but you are actually talking rubbish. Locatelli has been our best midfielder this year and remember he joined very late in the pre-season. His last game was poor because he has been overplayed by Allegri and needed a rest. As for barella being his daddy, that’s a joke right? Barella has been drop dead average for Italy the last 6 months (especially at the Euros) and rarely plays alongside Locatelli anyway. Just because Inter did not go for Locatelli, it doesn’t mean he is a poor player – its not as if Inter, after winning one title in 10 years, is suddenly a Euro heavyweight and transfer masters. Juve is going through a transition as every club does and will be back at the top eventually – it won’t take 10 years like Inter.

  6. There was a time you let me know
    What’s really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And I remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove she was moving too
And every single breath we drew was Hallelujah

Now I’ve done my best, I know it wasn’t much
I couldn’t feel, so I tried to touch
I’ve told the truth, I didnt come here to London just to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I’ll stand right here before the Lord of song
With nothing, nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

    Halleluujah-Halleluujah-Haleluujah-Haleluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuujaaaaaaaaaaah.

  7. Remember those walls I built
    Well, baby, they’re tumbling down
And they didn’t even put up a fight
They didn’t even make a sound
I found a way to let you win
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo
I got my angel now- its Federico Bernardeschi

  8. @Frankie agreed Locatelli is a good player, but he cannot do it alone and it does not cover the cracks in the team. Chiellini and Bonucci have been pillars of the club. However their performances for Italy disguised underlying issues. Italy have a great supporting cast and the Euro’s is a brief competition. Handing Chiellini another 2 years at his age and with injury concerns is a mistake. De Ligt does not have the trust of Allegri and I can see him going the way of Demiral and Romero which is a pity.

No doubt Barella is better then Locatelli. Anyone watching the Derby D’Italia last week could see he bossed the midfield and left Juve for dust.

Ironic how the Sarri and Pirlo haters are now defending Allegri and blaming the squad when the previous two had the same squad. Playing Rabiot as a winger for 2 games now demonstrated his knowledge.

  9. What an opportunity to rebuild Juventus. A new goalkeeper is the least of our worries. Give De Ligt control of the back 3 or 4 and retire Bonnuci & Chielllini, and De Ligt may have a chance. The belief that the oldies can come in and save the day is no longer true. Danilo is struggling at Right Back. Why not give Rugani a try in that position & move Danilo into mid-field. Perhaps go for 1.3.4.2.1 – less confusion at the back &
    more mid-fielders.

I’ve been a great admirer of Bentancur and Rabiot but they now contibute almost nothing. Build around Locatelli & perhaps Danilo on the right. Two midfielders are required; a hard destroyer and a creative player. I’m surprised to be saying it, but McKennie deserves another chance. Use Cuadrado and Dybala behind aKai George (not Moratta) & sign a quality proven striker. Perhaps bring back Fagiola too.

Stop using Bernardeschi, De Scilio, Arthur, Ramsey, Kuluveski, Moratta & Chiesa. I feel like the child who spots the Emperor with no clothes on when Iit comes to Chiesa. I do not see a great player. I see a one idea, selfish player. He & Bernadrdesci give their all for the cause, but they don’t play WITH the team and their occasional successes do not compensate for the opprotunities they waste. They do not help to create A TEAM.

From an 84 year old who after 70 years of watching top class football in the UK., Latin America and Italy via TV (and a Juve fan for 25yrs.) has never been so mystified by the soccer I’ve been watching from JuveNtus over the past 3 seasons.

I imahgine many of the team must feel just as confused – and low on confidence – after the chaos caused by Sarri, Pirlo and Ronaldo. Graham.
