Tanguy Ndombele opened up about his departure from Tottenham last summer and loan move to Napoli, noting how players ‘are treated more like commodities’.

The French midfielder has had a troubled time in North London since joining Spurs for a club-record fee of €62m in July 2019, often frustrating fans with his inconsistent performances and perceived lack of effort.

Ndombele joined Napoli on a loan deal with a €32.5m buy option last summer and has featured semi-regularly under Luciano Spalletti, seeing 1033 minutes of action across 34 total appearances.

Speaking to So Foot, Ndombele first discussed his future and what could happen at the end of the season.

“I don’t know what my future will be, many fans are asking me to return to Tottenham, but the clubs will decide that and Napoli have an option to buy.

“I don’t mind being on loan here, but sometimes I see that footballers are treated more like commodities than people.”

The 26-year-old Frenchman opened up about his Tottenham exit last summer.

“There was no other solution with Tottenham, and I am happy to have chosen Napoli. With Conte there was no choice, I wanted to prove my value on the pitch, but I was on the fringes of the group, it was communicated to me from the first day of the training camp with the team.”

Finally, Ndombele was asked about the accusations that he’s lazy.

“It’s a label I’ve always had, from school to the pitch. But it’s not like that, on the contrary I work constantly to improve.”

Ndombele is contracted to Tottenham until June 2025 and seems unlikely to have his buy option activated by Napoli, although they could look to negotiate a lower fee with Spurs.
