Roma have provided an update on the condition of Evan Ndicka following his serious health scare and collapse in the Serie A clash with Udinese, as he has been discharged from hospital.

The 24-year-old Ivorian centre back sparked fear and concern in the 72nd minute of the Giallorossi’s clash with the Friulian outfit on Sunday evening, when he collapsed off the ball.

He was quickly rushed to hospital, where initial tests confirmed that he hadn’t suffered a heart attack.

Ndicka was kept in hospital overnight for further tests and observations.

“Following acute precordial pain and atypical alternations in the EKG administered in the first aid room at the stadium, the player Evan Ndicka was hospitalized at the Santa Maria della Misericordia Hospital in Udine,” read a statement released this evening.

“First and second-level cardiological tests were administered that were negative for cardiac pathologies. In light of the last tests undergone this morning, the medical situation is compatible with a thoracic trauma with minimal left pneumothorax.

“The player was discharged and will undergo additional tests in Rome.

“AS Roma wishes to thank Udinese Calcio, referee Mr. Pairetto, the public present at the stadium in Udine and the medical and health staff at the Santa Maria della Misericordia Hospital in Udine for their great professionalism and availability.

“In those frantic minutes of apprehension, we all together demonstrated sports values and placed protecting life at first place.”

It is therefore confirmed that there was no cardiac issue, but a trauma to the chest during the match prompted breathing difficulties and pain in the torso.

This resulted in a collapsed lung.

When there is even the slightest risk of cardiac problems, every conceivable precaution must be taken.

In the meantime, he has received an outpouring of support from fans and he was visited by the squad, where he was seen looking positive from his bed. Some reports tried to explain this incident in reports this morning.

The Giallorossi will need to play out the remaining 28 or so minutes of their Serie A clash with Udinese at a later date, which hasn’t yet been set.
