Nations League Liveblog: Italy vs. Spain

This is a replay of the UEFA EURO 2020 semi-final, which had to be decided on penalties at Wembley Stadium in July.

Both coaches have had to deal with injuries in the lead-up to this competition, particularly in attack, as Ciro Immobile, Andrea Belotti, Gerard Moreno and Alvaro Morata are ruled out.

This has prompted both Roberto Mancini and Luis Enrique to go for a 4-3-3 formation with a False 9, adopting tridents that can switch positions at will during the game.

Lorenzo Insigne, Federico Chiesa and Federico Bernardeschi are the Italian choices for the trident, while Spain rely on Mikel Oyarzabal, Ferran Torres and Pablo Sarabia.

Spain also throw 17-year-old Barcelona talent Gavi straight into the starting XI, making him the youngest ever debutant for Spain at senior level.

We have already seen that Bernardeschi and Chiesa can play as a centre-forward at Juventus, while Insigne was tipped to take that role today.

Lorenzo Pellegrini had been expected to start, but he is on the bench along with Giorgio Chiellini, as Alessandro Bastoni completes the defence.

Gianluigi Donnarumma returns to San Siro for the first time since he left Milan as a free agent to join PSG and banners in the city already warned he will face a hostile reception, even though he is representing Italy tonight.

The Azzurri are wearing a special edition Puma jersey for this tournament, using their new Ultraweave technology.

If we remove penalty shoot-outs, then Italy have won just one of their last nine meetings with Spain, the 2-0 EURO 2016 Round of 16 tie.
