Wilfried Gnonto is expected to start in Italy’s attack against Germany tonight.

The Azzurri play their fourth and final match of this round of Nations League matches, meeting Germany at Monchengladbach at 19.45 UK time tonight.

Gnonto made his senior Azzurri debut in the reverse fixture and it proved to be a decisive move from Roberto Mancini as the 18-year-old delivered an assist for Lorenzo Pellegrini. Gnonto is expected to start in Italy’s attack tonight, along with Giacomo Raspadori and Matteo Politano.

Inter and Roma defenders Alessandro Bastoni and Gianluca Mancini will start at centre-back, with Leonardo Spinazzola and Davide Calabria at full-backs. The latter has just been named the new Milan captain for 2022-23.

Manuel Locatelli, Bryan Cristante and Nicolò Barella will be deployed in the middle of the park. The Inter midfielder rested against England on Saturday, while Locatelli played for circa one hour and Cristante was introduced in the final minutes.

The Azzurri are the Nations League Group 4 leaders with five points in three games. Germany sit third with three points.

  1. A very strong line up well done Mancini, although between berrella and pellagrini in the central attacking midfield role , I prefer pelagrini for now, I hope pellagrini, comes in off the bench .

  2. Very good line-up. Pellegrini would make it even better but he’s played a lot recently.

Politano has been very impressive these last few matches, like all the others honestly. I’m expecting Raspadori to show something more in this match, while Mancini is the only one who had a bad game last time around, and not just because he scored an own goal. I was hoping to see Scalvini or even Gatti again but anyway, at least Mancini is a threat on the corners.

  3. Any reason why I am not allowed to post. I may have to make a complaint about this, the amount of times I have wasted precious time trying to post something and it not coming up in the comments. It’s not right, most websites allow fair comments.

  4. @ M Don’t take it personally. It’s just a terrible, terrible website. I emailed them directly to query it and they never even responded. Nothing like valuing your readers!

  5. Pellegrini should start in attack. Has proven this season with Roma that he can be the creative hub of the team. But willy and politano has been good as well. . Maybe gnonto can be like Italy version of rodrygo .come in 2nd half vs tiring defence.

  6. Not bad Line up. Would probably have had Tonalli in place of Cristante. Florenzi in left back and Spina in place of Gnonto. But bring Gnonto on to replace someone.

  7. Opposite teams target Di Lorenzo as he is a clear weak link. Calabria offers more going forward and is more reliable defensively

  8. Politano and Raspadori are the weak spots.

Politano has no business being on the national team

Certainly an inferior player to Vincenzo Griffo whose team finished in 5th place in Germany.

Bundislega is superior to Serie A so I don’t get it

  9. I think we’re going with a 3-4-3 today: Donnarumma, Luiz Felipe, Mancini, Bastini in defense. The five midfielders are: Calabria on the right, Spinazzola on the left, Cristante, Barella, and Frattesi in the middle. Up front: Politano on the right, Gnonto on the left, and Raspadori as the center forward. Forza Italia 🇮🇹!!

  10. Sorry, I wrote one too many players: take Calabria out. It might be Frattesi on the right side of midfield. 3-4-3

  11. Solid starting 11 the only person missing is Pellegrini. He may have some fatigue due to a number of minutes he played in the last few weeks. At least we should see him as a sub after 60- 65 min.

  12. I like the line up but my preference would be the Barella-Pellegrini-Tonali midfield and also want to try out Raspa and Scamacca together for the NT in place of Politano.

  13. I would love for Tonali and Pellegrini to start, but I believe Mancini is either resting Pellegrini or using him as a sub. Tonali is suspended for an accumulation of yellow cards. I love our future, especially when we get Chiesa and Zaniolo back. I would love to see Scalvini get his debut today perhaps in the second half! Forza Azzurri!!
