Napoli are planning to bolster their midfield in the coming winter transfer window and have reportedly started considering a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Emre Can.

The Partenopei have already sold Eljif Elmas to RB Leipzig and will lose Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa to the fast-approaching Africa Cup of Nations, reducing Walter Mazzarri’s options in the centre of the pitch.

Napoli have already identified their top target, wanting to push through a deal for Udinese starlet Lazar Samardzic, and are now looking around for another suitable reinforcement as they look to fight for a top four finish.

Pages 18 to 21 of today’s Corriere dello Sport detail how Napoli have started to seriously think about making a move for Can in the coming transfer window, despite the fact that the Borussia Dortmund midfielder doesn’t particularly fit their usual profile.

The 29-year-old German would cost around €20m and has a salary of around €4m net per season, so it would be a risk from Aurelio De Laurentiis’ club, who are usually unwilling to invest to much in an older player.

Can previously spent 18 months with Juventus from July 2018 to January 2020, scoring four goals and providing one assist across 45 total appearances.
