Pau Lopez’s agent claims Napoli were interested in the Espanyol goalkeeper but expects them to sign a ‘more experienced’ replacement for Pepe Reina.

Napoli will be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer as Pepe Reina is set to join Milan, and the latest reports have linked them with Pau, who was previously linked with Juventus and had thought to be closing in on a move to Real Betis.

“There was contact with Napoli,” Albert Botines told Radio Crc.

“I talked to [sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli in confidence, and I can say that yes, [Napoli’s] interest was there.

“Napoli, being a big club, are looking to sign more than one goalkeeper for next season, and it would be an honour for Pau to wear their jersey.

“However, he’s still young and I don’t know how much Napoli would play him, although the deal with Betis hasn’t been finalised yet.

“Maybe when the lad is more mature, Napoli could be an option, also because I think they’ll go for a more experienced goalkeeper after Pepe Reina.”
