According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Napoli have set their sights on Aston Villa defender Axel Tuanzebe as a potential replacement for Kostas Manolas.

The Greece international has joined Olympiacos on a permanent deal and the Partenopei are on the lookout for a new centre-back in January.

They’ve been linked with many defenders over the last few weeks, including Tottenham’s Davinson Sanchez and Chelsea’s Malang Sarr.

However, Napoli are only open to signing new players on loan with an option to buy and are not planning permanent signings in the winter transfer window.

Tuanzebe joined Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United in the summer but has only started six Premier League matches this season, the last one on November 5.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Napoli are interested in securing his services on a temporary deal until the end of the season and are waiting for Manchester United’s decision on the 24-year-old.

The Red Devils could end Tuanzebe’s loan at Villa Park and let him move to the Stadio Maradona until June.

Tuanzebe is a product of Manchester United academy and made his senior debut under José Mourinho in 2017.
