It is reported that Napoli are preparing to offer star forward Dries Mertens a new contract.

The 30-year-old currently has a deal at the San Paolo that expires in the summer of 2020.

While this is still over two years away, La Repubblica claims that the Partenopei are concerned by the fact Mertens’ deal still contains a €28m release clause.

According to the Italian daily, Partenopei President Aurelio De Laurentiis is keen to eliminate the clause as it is not a fair reflection of the player’s form over the last few seasons.
