There are reports Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano has a release clause in his contract, which feeds into the interest from Napoli.

The former Spezia tactician has made a big difference at the Stadio Franchi since he was drafted in to replace Gennaro Gattuso, who lasted only a couple of weeks in pre-season.

After beating Napoli home and away in Serie A this term, Italiano has been mentioned as a possible candidate to take over from Luciano Spalletti at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

According to RAI Sport Fiorentina correspondent Sara Meini, that could be within their reach because there’s a €10m release clause in Italiano’s contract.

It can only be activated during the period from June 1-15 and must be paid in one lump sum.

Italiano already raised eyebrows recently by hiring agent Fali Ramadani to be his representative, hinting at a possible move away from the Viola.

Fiorentina are not eager to let their coach leave, but if the €10m release clause is paid, they won’t have any choice in the matter.

  1. How will Napoli ever win anything if they change coach every year. I know Italiano is very good but he too will need at least two seasons….
Coming from a Milanfan..I know exacly what I talk since we were the same before pioli

  2. I would usually agree with your statement. But Spallettti totally failed the club with his choices at the end this year. has he ever won anything? Also Napoli will be losing players. So maybe time for a change. I know injuries and International competitions cost the teama lot this year. But that is the future. More and more games at the clubs expense. I wouldn’t mind seeing Italiano at the helm. Never was a Spalletti fan after the way he treated Totti. I wish they could find a way to keep Mertens. Glad to see Insigne leave. Two goals all season from play.

  3. Some of Spaletti’s choices in the second half of the season have been just incomperhensible. Italiano would likely do better (maybe not a Scudetto but at least 2nd place and get out the group stage in CL). But a change of coach alone wouldn’t be enough. The academy has to improve, recruiting has to improve, training sessions have to improve. There must be a clear idea of how the club wants to play and what it needs from players on all levels from the under-12 coach through the women’s team to the president. There must be consistency in terms of philosophy at the club.
