There was a curious moment when Napoli striker Victor Osimhen forgot his protective mask in the locker room at half-time against Verona.
The Nigeria international had scored the opener at the Stadio Bentegodi with a header on Matteo Politano’s cross.
He had the warm-up without his mask and played with it on in the first half, but as he came out for the restart, realised he’d left it in the locker room.
Osimhen in a panic asked members of the Napoli kit staff to rush back and recover it, so he was able to get the mask back on after a few minutes.
He has needed to wear the carbon-fibre mask ever since a horrifying clash of heads with Inter defender Milan Skriniar in October.
It left him with multiple facial fractures, requiring six metal plaques and 18 screws.
Curiously, since returning to action with the mask, all of Osimhen’s goals for Napoli have been headers.
