Napoli coach Francesco Calzona says Victor Osimhen was ‘devastated’ after returning to the club from AFCON.

The Nigeria international has scored two goals in two matches under Calzona playing his first game at a club level in 2024 this past Wednesday against Barcelona in the Champions League.

He found the net against the Catalans and in a 1-1 Serie A draw against Cagliari today but was subbed off in the second half in Sardinia.

“He was only tired. Victor is a fantastic guy. He scored two goals in two matches and will slowly get back in shape,” Calzona told DAZN after the final whistle.

“Don’t forget he played at AFCON. Players are devastated when they return. He was tired also against Barcelona, but players always want to stay on the pitch.”
