As Antonio Conte moves ever closer to signing the contract as the new Napoli coach, there are conflicting reports over a release clause after just one year.

The former Tottenham Hotspur, Inter, Juventus, Chelsea and Italy tactician is in advanced negotiations for the switch to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

As ever with a contract involving President Aurelio De Laurentiis, it is a complicated matter with numerous clauses that need to be evaluated carefully by both sets of lawyers.

Il Mattino had caused controversy over the last few days by suggesting Conte had demanded a release clause allowing him to leave Napoli for very little after just one year in the job.

However, today Tuttomercatoweb note that sources from Napoli absolutely refuted the existence of that in the contract.

There were other reports too, including the wording of a three-year deal covering image rights not for a global audience, but the ‘entire universe.’

It prompted jokes that De Laurentiis believed Napoli would be selling merchandise beyond the galaxy.

Conte is expected to earn €6.5m per season net plus performance-related bonuses.
