Napoli slam media and Kvaratskhelia’s agents over contract extension talks

Napoli branded ‘bull****’ reports of negotiations for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s contract extension, blaming media who have ‘the player’s agents as their only source.’

The Serie A champions released a rather aggressive statement on Twitter on Tuesday morning regarding Kvaratskhelia’s potential contract extension.

“Having the player’s agent as the only source, some media continue to report supposed negotiations for the contract extension of Kvaratskhelia,” said the Partenopei in a statement.

“It’s ‘bull****’. Nobody from Napoli, Mauro Meluso, Maurizio Micheli, Aurelio de Laurentiis or Andrea Chiavelli, has ever discussed the possible contract extension of the player (whose contract expires in four years).”

The Georgian ace joined the Partenopei for circa €10m in 2022 and inspired their title-winning Serie A campaign in 2022-23 with 12 goals and 13 assists in 34 league matches.

The 22-year-old currently earns circa €1.2m at the Stadio Maradona and Italian media had reported Napoli would offer him a new salary close to €3-4m. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case as the Partenopei have confirmed they’ve never discussed a potential new deal with the Georgian’s representatives.

Kvara had missed the first Serie A game of 2023-24 against Frosinone due to muscle fatigue but delivered an assist for captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo in his season debut the following week, coming off the bench in a 2-0 win over against Sassuolo.
