Napoli are now finalising the last few details of David Neres’s move from Benfica to the Stadio Maradona, but the former Ajax winger may have to wait until his current side complete their first game of the season.
Napoli set date for Neres medical
According to Friday’s reports, the intention is to formalise the transfer after the conclusion of Benfica’s first match of the Primera Liga season against Casa Pia on Saturday evening.
Gianluca Di Marzio suggests that the player will travel to Italy after Benfica’s match this weekend, and that he is expected to undergo a medical with Napoli on Monday.
The transfer is expected to set Napoli back by a figure of €28m, including bonuses.
Neres has not been included in the Benfica squad for their upcoming league fixture.
Napoli had been hoping to sell Victor Osimhen before signing Neres, which would also allow them to bring in Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea. However, the Lukaku move is more dependant on Osimhen’s departure, so the Partenopei have decided to push forwards for the Brazilian instead.
