Napoli are in talks to extend Piotr Zielinski’s contract, but at the same time looking at alternatives including Morocco international Azzedine Ounahi, Teun Koopmeiners of Atalanta and Udinese’s Lazar Samardzic.

The 28-year-old Poland international has been in Naples since his €16m transfer from Udinese in 2016 and is having a very productive campaign so far, with six goals and seven assists in 21 competitive games.

His contract only runs to June 2024 and La Gazzetta dello Sport warns that Napoli are not necessarily that eager to extend that deal.

They are generally trying to cut down the wage bill and realise it’s probably the last chance to get a big fee for selling Zielinski.

That means Napoli are also looking around for younger and cheaper alternatives for the future.

The main one is Morocco international Ounahi, who impressed so much at the World Cup in Qatar, especially as RMC Sport and Footmercato already stated they were the favourites to sign him.

Others from within Serie A are Koopmeiners of Atalanta, who at €40m might be too expensive, and 20-year-old Udinese talent Samardzic.
