Napoli are ready to make a switch after sporting director Mauro Meluso’s disappointing work this year and the club have identified three possible replacements.

The 59-year-old director took on the role last July following the resignation of Cristiano Giuntoli, who left after the Scudetto victory to join up with Juventus. Meluso had previously worked with Spezia, Lecce, Cosenza and Frosinone, but had no experience at the highest level.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has been left disappointed by Meluso’s work and he’s now planning to hire a new sporting director ahead of next season, wanting to turn the team’s fortunes around after a difficult post-Scudetto year.

Calciomercato.com details how De Laurentiis is not planning to renew Meluso’s contract as sporting director, although he could stay at the club in a different role, and has identified three replacements ahead of the summer.

Topping the list is Empoli director Pietro Accardi, who was already linked to the Partenopei following Giuntoli’s resignation last year. Alternatives for now include former Milan man Frederic Massara and Hellas Verona’s Sean Sogliano.
