Napoli released a statement reacting with ‘surprise’ to the latest comments from Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s agent, as the club reiterates he is not for sale.

The captain has repeatedly stated that he wants to leave this summer and that it does not matter who the coach will be next season.

His agent Mario Giuffredi reiterated that position in an interview with reporters this afternoon, which prompted a strong response from the club.

“Calcio Napoli note with surprise that, once again in the space of a few days, Mr Mario Giuffredi affirms that Giovanni Di Lorenzo will leave Napoli,” read a statement.

“We feel obliged to underline that Di Lorenzo has a contract with Napoli for another four seasons, he is not part of the group of players who the club will consider transferring to another club and therefore any potential sale is to be excluded.”

Di Lorenzo rapport with Napoli broken

The Italy international is currently away preparing for the EURO 2024 tournament at the Coverciano training ground.

Di Lorenzo turns 31 in August and has been at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona since making the move from Empoli in the summer of 2019.

He only recently signed a new contract in August 2023, in the wake of the Scudetto success, but things turned extremely sour during this season.

Among the clubs interested in taking on Di Lorenzo this summer are Juventus, Roma, Inter, Milan, Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid.
