Napoli turned down a Cruzeiro offer for Paulo Henrique, but signed a player just because of his passport.

It’s transfer deadline day and Henrique will not be leaving the Stadio San Paolo.

“He will remain at Napoli until June, then we’ll see,” agent Naor Malaquias told CalcioNapoli24.it.

“There was an offer from Cruzeiro over the last few hours, but Rafa Benitez promptly rejected it because he did not want to lose the player for the rest of the season.

“Could this move be reconsidered in the summer? It’s possible…”

Meanwhile, Napoli have made the most unusual transfer of the window, signing someone they have no intention of playing.

Francis Obeng was bought out from Sant’Arcangelo in Romagna, but the 28-year-old Ghanaian has only one valuable asset – his passport.

In Italy there are limitations on non-EU players and only a certain number of spots are available.

Napoli had a spare spot, so as not to lose it for the next transfer window, they signed Obeng as a place-holder.

It means he can be sold over the summer and replaced with a different non-EU player.
