Napoli’s club website has been bombarded with requests for tickets for the final game of the season against Sampdoria on Sunday afternoon, when the team will be formally presented with the Serie A trophy after confirming their first league title since 1989-90 in May.

Tickets for the Partenopei’s last league fixture of the season went on sale at 2pm UK time on Monday afternoon, with ANSA reporting that over 100,000 people had tried to secure their place at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona within the first few hours of the release.

The 100,000 figure does not include season ticket holders, who, naturally, are entitled to attend every league fixture of the season.

So much was the demand for tickets on Monday afternoon, that Napoli’s website was unable to cope with the virtual queues and temporarily crashed at various stages of the day.

It goes without saying that the final game of the season is expected to be a sell-out.

The game against already-relegated Sampdoria kicks off at 17.30 GMT+1 and will be followed by official celebrations across the city, which have come at a cost of over €800,000 Province.

The after party will be broadcast on television in Italy as well as on multiple big screens across the city for those who are unable to attend the main events in-person.
