According to reports in Italy, Napoli are already in talks to lock South Korea international Kim Min-jae down to a new contract, removing the rather unusual release clause amid Tottenham interest.

The defender was snapped up from Fenerbahce over the summer as a replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly at a cost of €18m and has been a revelation for the Serie A leaders.

His current deal runs to June 2025 and has an option to renew for another two years.

The concern Napoli have is the release clause, which Sky Sport Italia claim can vary between €40m to €80m, depending on the revenue of the purchasing club.

The clause is valid only for clubs outside of Italy from July 1-15.

Either way, it would be a profit of over €20m, but the Partenopei are determined to cut off any Premier League interest early by signing him to a new, more solid contract that would either remove or adjust the release clause.

Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur seem the most interested in bringing Kim Min-jae to London, especially as they already have Son Heung-Min.
