According to Il Corriere Dello Sport, Federico Pastorello and Napoli have shaken hands over Alex Meret’s contract extension at the Stadio Maradona.

The Italy international’s contract was due to expire in June 2023, but the Rome-based paper claims his agent Pastorello has now reached an agreement over a new deal for his client.

The two parties reportedly met at Castel Volturno and are said to have agreed on a new three-year deal for the 25-year-old who has played a key role for the Partenopei this season, keeping three clean sheets in seven Serie A games.

Meret was not a regular starter last season and Pastorello had threatened that his client would have left Napoli if he wasn’t picked as the regular No.1.

“We’ll talk with the club at the end of the season, it could be complicated to continue working with this situation,” Pastorello said in May.

Napoli held talks for Kepa and Keylor Navas in the summer after signing Salvatore Sirigu to replace David Ospina. However, they failed to sign a new goalkeeper and Meret’s performances have convinced the club to extend his contract.
