Napoli have reportedly set a €40m price tag on star defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who has been linked with a number of top European clubs.

The 30-year-old Senegalese defender’s current contract with the Partenopei expires in 2023 and renewal talks have not gone positively as president Aurelio De Laurentiis offer saw his salary drop from €6m net per season to €4m per year. There is now a chance that he could leave on a free transfer next year, so a price tag has been set.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, a number of top clubs are keen to pick up the €40m valued Koulibaly this summer, starting with Barcelona. Xavi’s side are interested but are currently facing some cash flow problems and so remain on the sidelines.

Chelsea, under the guidance of new owner Todd Boehly, reportedly have sent Koulibaly a €10m net per season offer, but they’d need to reach a deal with Napoli still. PSG are also keen and they’re ready to spend €80m this summer to improve their squad.

  1. Although I’m always disappointed to see another star player leave my Napoli, they have shown that they have an excellent scouting network under ADL, as they consistently find worthy replacements.
