Napoli have issued an update on the status of injured trio Matteo Politano, Giovanni Simeone and Mario Rui ahead of Saturday afternoon’s visit from Salernitana

Politano and Mario Rui were both withdrawn 34 minutes into the 1-1 draw with Milan in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final last Tuesday as Luciano Spaletti’s side crashed out of the competition on a 2-1 aggregate loss.

In more positive news, Politano has undergone rehabilitative therapy over the last few days and is optimistic that he could be in contention to return in time for the Salernitana game at the weekend.

Mario Rui, however, is set for a longer spell on the sidelines as the injury to his right fibula is considered ‘serious’ and it is unlikely that he will return to action before the game against Inter on May 21.

Simeone will also likely be unavailable for a number of games, but the timescale for his return is considered to be a number of weeks rather than months.

He will continue to undergo observations over the next few days to further understand whether Napoli can afford to take any risks with his recovery.
