Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis urges Italy Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to show ‘the same courage’ as Margaret Thatcher after clashes involving Partenopei and Eintracht fans on Wednesday.

Germans fans were not allowed at the Stadio Maradona for the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 yesterday, but hundreds of them arrived in Naples regardless.

They clashed with Italian Police in the city centre hours before the game and according to reports, they were helped by Atalanta ultras.

Napoli’s Police chief Alessandro Giuliano held a press conference on Thursday morning, joined by Napoli President De Laurentiis.

“Families must go to the stadium, not drug dealers,” said ADL as quoted by Gazzetta.

“Perhaps, those shouting: ‘We are Naples’ were chasing German fans outside the stadium or fighting with Police. But yesterday the Maradona looked like an English stadium.

“I am proud to have shown this side of Naples to those watching on TV worldwide. Now, politicians must face the situation and I hope [Italy Prime Minister] Giorgia Meloni will have the same courage as Margaret Thatcher.

“UEFA represent themselves. Just think of what happened in Paris for the Champions League Final. [President of the European Commission] Ursula von der Leyen must also ask questions. Because in Europe there are tens of millions of fans who must be respected and protected, contrary to a violent minority.”
