According to Italian transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà, the situation at Anzhi has placed an intriguing proposition into their lap.
The Russian club has put the entire squad on the transfer market, as confirmed by Chairman Constantin Remchukov.
“The truth is that we will be reformatting the way Anzhi is run. Many expensive players will leave. The budget will be $50m-$70m a year (£32m-£46m).”
Eto’o joined Anzhi in August 2011 and became the highest-paid player in the world at £17m per season after tax.
The 32-year-old Cameroon international would still be a costly proposition for Napoli right now, but at €20m considerably more affordable than their alternatives.
Wages are another issue, although it is possible Eto’o would take a pay cut for a return to Serie A, where he won the Treble with Inter, and the Champions League.
