Gattuso was supposed to sign a contract extension with the Azzurri before the end of 2020, but his relationship with President Aurelio De Laurentiis has quickly collapsed, meaning the 2006 Italy World Cup winner will almost surely leave the Stadio Maradona at the end of the season.

Sky Sport insists the Partenopei and Gattuso will part ways at the end of the season.

However, according to Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno, some players want the former midfielder to remain in charge in 2021-22.

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis congratulated the coach and the players after their win against Spezia yesterday, but according to Sky Sport that’s not enough to think his relationship with Gattuso has been fixed.

Gattuso replaced Carlo Ancelotti in December 2019. He has a 1.87 point average in 87 games in the Azzurri dug-out.
