Napoli Vice-President Edo De Laurentiis has hit out at the club’s dressing room, warning that “the shirt and city must be honoured.”
In response to the recent squad mutiny, which saw Napoli players refuse Aurelio’s orders of going on a training retreat, his son singled out Emanuele Calaio and Francesco Montervino as examples for the current crop to emulate.
“Montervino and Calaio, they are two examples of how to respect the shirt,” he said during a presentation dinner last night.

“They were guys who loved the city and the club. They were brave.
“The monthly salary must be respected, the shirt and city must be honoured.
“The fans come to the stadium for the players, so it takes respect, respect and more respect.
“I remember a call from Montervino, when he asked my father if the players could return to their wives after a four-week retreat. We need captains like him in every dressing room in Italian football.
“You get everything with common sense. You have to respect the workplace, the lads are employees after all.”
The pair played key roles in the Partenopei’s return to Serie A after they were forced to start over in the third tier.
The seventh-placed southerners face Milan this weekend before travelling to Liverpool in the Champions League.
