In the space of 12 months, Alessio Zerbin has gone from playing in Serie B with Frosinone to making his Champions League debut with Napoli, who have no interest in losing the youngster.

The Italian winger joined the Partenopei in January 2017 from AC Gozzano, spending time with the Primavera squad and bouncing around on loan to Viterbese, Cesena, Pro Vercelli and Frosinone. Zerbi finally broke into Napoli’s first team this season, making five appearances across Serie A and the Champions League, and he’s earnt a call-up to Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Luciano Spalletti has been keeping a close eye on Zerbin’s development and he’s been impressed with the 23-year-old. It was his decision in the summer to keep the Italian winger in his Napoli squad, turning down loan offers from Sampdoria and Cremonese.

The Partenopei were clear with Zerbin’s entourage, either a convincing offer arrives for a permanent deal or the player would stay in Campania.

He did stay and now Napoli are opening talks to discuss a contract renewal, keen to extend his stay past 2025.
