Napoli have released a statement assuring captain Lorenzo Insigne did not have ‘any friction with his teammates’ after his furious post-match rant.

His penalty had put them 3-2 up in the final minute against Sassuolo on Wednesday evening, only for Kostas Manolas to give away a spot-kick for the 3-3 result in stoppages.

Insigne was filmed storming off down the tunnel, kicking the advertising boards and shouting what appeared to be ‘what a s*** team!’

Napoli have now released a statement on the situation.

“Following media speculation, we wish to clarify that there was no friction between captain Lorenzo Insigne and his teammates.

“The player wanted to release tension in the final minutes of Sassuolo-Napoli only because of the chaotic finale to the game.”

Insigne’s agent had also rejected reports Insigne was shouting at his teammates or even coach Gennaro Gattuso.

Napoli are currently under a club-imposed press silence, so none of their employees are permitted to speak with the media.
